Expert in the Kitchen?

I’ve been trying to use new recipes and check out some food blogs.  Now that I’m proficient on my Google reader, I can stay up to date on my favorite food blogs.  This recipe I got from Annie’s Eats.  I’ve tried a couple of her recipes before and have liked them very much.  This is a Zucchini boat with sausage and lots of vegetables.

The side dish is baked garlic rice, from the same website.  Matt loved it, but I thought it had a little too much garlic.  I think next time I’ll incorporate some chicken and make it as a main course.  The bread is from the Schwan’s man…delicious frozen French loaf. :)

Desperate to Hunt?

While sitting on the couch to do a little light reading, Matt and I heard some growling in the backyard.  Now our dogs are not strangers to barking, but this was not the typical barking.  Matt ran outside to check on the situation.  I ran to the front door to see if something was tormenting our lovely, angelic, dogs.  Next thing I know Matt is running back inside screaming that he needs a gun.  Now I know that our dogs are not always well behaved, but I was slightly concerned that Matt had just had enough.

Panic stricken, I dash outside behind Matt.  He’s in the middle of a dog on groundhog fight and the neighbor behind us is screaming.  We manage to pull the dog fighting ring apart long enough for Matt to shoot the groundhog in the head.  After the fatal blow, Jenny is still not convinced and pounces on the corpse just to make sure.  Allie is traumatized by the shot, but left to her devices, she would have killed it with her blind-dog fighting skills.

This beauty weighs in at 16 lbs. Average size is 4-9 lbs.   The only conclusion I can come to is that Matt needs to go back to KS and hunt.  He’s getting desperate here in town.

Knitting Genius

When I started pharmacy school, my Aunt DeeAnne taught me how to knit.  During school and my residency, I perfected the traditional scarf.  The habit took a back seat as I grew busier and busier.  To re-learn my lost skill, I’ve been taking a knitting class at a local knit shop (Mass Ave Knit Shop).  We started out with a “small project”, a scarf, hat, and mittens.  My masterpieces are shown below.

After the scarf, Susan (my knitting mentor) started us on a “simple sweater”.  This was in March and I JUST FINISHED.  This was my EVEREST.  It took me FOREVER to complete.  All in all, I think it looks classy…like a lady.

After finishing the sweater, I started working on a scarf.  This is a cable scarf and I’m making some for Christmas.  I’m also working on another scarf, but I have to wait until class on Monday for Susan to fix my scarf…

All You Can Eat Date Night-Gluttony

Matt and I went to Red Lobster for date night this week.  Matt dined on AYCE (all you can eat) shrimp, while I chose a little lighter meal of flounder.  I know that most people branch out to something slightly classier for date night, but you tell me how I could possibly resist watching Matt try to stuff his face.  **of note, tonight I’m using Live Writer to blog.  So far, it’s much easier than my old technique.  Thanks to Sonja-my blog/salsa mentor!**

100_0448 Matt started out with Teriyaki and fried shrimp.

100_0452 I tried to match a cheddar biscuit for each order of shrimp.  I was unable to keep up, but I did make it through 7 biscuits…YUMMY.

100_0449 Matt’s second order…CAJUN.

100_0450Round 3-coconut fried shrimp…YUMMMY!

100_0454100_0456100_0457100_0462Matt was starting to wear down a little.

100_0460 Still, he kept going….AMAZING!

100_0461 100_0463 FINALLY HE’S ALL DONE…

100_0464Matt has this unnatural ability to stick his belly out like he’s pregnant.  This time around he may be only slightly exaggerating…Careful ladies, he’s taken!

NFA Conference 2009

I spent last weekend in Wisconsin at the National Fireworks Association conference. Mom and my two aunts go to the annual conference to represent WALD FIREWORKS! They are kind enough to let me tag along.

Mom and Aunt DeeAnne trying to win some MONEY!

MORE FIREWORKS!

All in all a fun weekend at the NFA!
